CC - Counterclaims
The Counterclaims working group has the following main tasks:
- Putting together the Business Rules for the group
- Maintaining the CCP
- Sharing Requirements and Use Cases
This group is chaired by James Way (ICE Services) and Dee Hale (Sony Music Publishing).
A Counterclaim occurs when more than one party makes a claim to the same interest in a work, a whole work, or a catalogue of works. This occurs within the context of interested parties, rights, territory, and time dimensions.
The aim of the Counterclaims Best Practice is to create a clear, concise, pragmatic, and transparent common practice for the handling of Counterclaims, which achieves global adoption and interoperability between organisations.
The Best Practice document sets out the common industry policy for CMOs (collective management organisations), and their Members, to facilitate the identification and management of conflicting claims that arise as part of the day-to-day business when reconciling claims to musical works.
The Counterclaims Best Practice can be found here.
